Elephant Manager, Bull Program
The Elephant Sanctuary in TN is celebrating 30 years’ of providing elephants with care, the companionship of a herd, and the opportunity to live out their lives in a safe haven dedicated to their well-being. We are seeking a qualified and experienced candidate to develop and manage the recently implemented elephant bull program. This is a dedicated position focusing on the expansion of the organization’s capability to care for male and female African and Asian elephants in optimal conditions.
The Sanctuary is experiencing an exciting time of growth. Our first bull arrived in 2023; and our second bull followed in 2024. This position will play a key role in guiding staff on herd integration, socialization, and managing care during musth.
We encourage you to apply if you meet the following job requirements and prerequisites:
- Six years’ experience working with bull elephants in Protected Contact management
- Two or more years’ experience as a collaborative team leader or managing supervisor
- Elephant transport and planning experience ideal
- Valid driver’s license, insurable to drive company vehicles, and ability to provide own transportation to/from work
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
- Farm equipment operation experience preferred
- Physical requirements include the ability to stand/work for 8 hours in all weather conditions and terrains; ability to lift and carry 50lbs repeatedly; and ability to perform repetitive manual tasks (cutting, pressure washing, raking, etc.)
- Flexibility to work different times as needed including evenings, weekends, holidays
Status: Full-time, Exempt; 40 hrs/week
